Small businesses are a vitally important for our constituency’s economy; yet, sadly, they are facing increasing pressures. I continue to support our local small businesses, especially during events like Small Business Saturday in December.
The first problem facing businesses is the Welsh Government, along with their Plaid Cymru, pushing ahead with plans to introduce a tourism tax in Wales. Taxing the tourism industry is simply not the right thing to do as we rebuild from the pandemic and face ever-growing cost of living pressures.
Deeply uncompetitive business rates, the highest in the UK, are adding to the pressures facing businesses today. We need to cut taxes to allow Welsh businesses breathing space. Ultimately, businesses need more investment, not to be slapped with more taxes.
