Peter Fox MS, Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, has welcomed the planting of 8500 trees in Torfaen.
Through a joint effort by Bron Afon and Torfaen, dubbed the ‘Branching Out Project’, has led to thousands of trees, saplings, whips and shrubs planted across the county.
The trees have been planted on council-owned land and within the grounds of local schools, in addition to re-establishing some older and more tired-looking parts of Bron Afon’s land.
In welcoming the scheme, Mr Fox has called on other local authorities to follow suit, including Monmouthshire County Council.
Local MS for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has said:
“I commend the efforts of those involved in this scheme, that has seen so many trees planted.
“It will go a long way in enhancing our communities, and brightening up the environment for us all to enjoy.
“This initiative will not just have a visual benefit, but an environmental one too, and I am very pleased to see of this scheme in place.
“I hope that other local authorities in Wales, especially Monmouthshire County Council, who share a part of my constituency, will look on this and enact a similar scheme.”
