Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has asked why Hospices in Wales are not being ‘protected’ by Welsh Government.
During questions to the First Minister, Mr Fox highlighted the excellent work being undertaken by St David’s in Newport, and other hospices across Wales, and said we have a lot to thank them for.
The Monmouth MS took the opportunity to highlight how Labour’s decision to increase employers National Insurance is set to cost the hospice an extra £310,000, leaving them to foot the bill.
This has led to them reviewing their outgoings, which could result in the closing of charity shops and the reconsidering of sites, with Mr Fox stating this ‘cannot be right.’
Mr Fox asked the First Minister to explain why hospices are being forced to pay for Labour’s decisions, instead of being protected.
Local MS for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has said:
“Visiting that wonderful facility in Newport provided me with a sense of gratitude and pride for the work our hospices do across Wales.
“Yet, like most people in Wales, they are struggling with rising costs and difficulties.
“I was shocked to hear how the rise in National Insurance by Labour in Westminster is due to cost St David’s £310 000.
“This is a charity set up to provide end of life care, yet they are being left to foot the bill by Labour’s tax raid.
“The Welsh Government have failed to stand up to their counterparts in London at every opportunity, and this is sadly the result.
“The First Minister and her Labour government should be protecting Welsh charities, but they are being left to fend for themselves.”
