Member of the Senedd for Sir Fynwy Torfaen, Peter Fox, has participated in the Walk to School Day in Magor.
Organised by the Magor Action Group for Rail (MAGOR), the event encourages children to walk to school and helps highlight the benefits of healthier and more sustainable travel.
For every pupil who demonstrated that they had walked to school, a donation was made towards fundraising efforts for Magor Church in Wales Primary School and Undy Primary School, with money raised from the community being returned directly to local educational projects and activities.
The initiative also reflects the long-standing community support for the proposed Magor & Undy Walkway Station and the wider ambition of improving local transport connectivity while encouraging more people to choose active methods of travel for shorter journeys.
During the morning, Mr Fox met with pupils, school staff and volunteers, in addition to the Deputy Minister for Transport, Mark Hooper MS, where both heard about the positive impact that previous fundraising efforts have had, with last year’s event raising around £500.
Mr Fox praised the commitment shown by MAGOR and its volunteers in bringing together schools, local businesses, and residents for a common cause.
