Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has raised serious concerns at the escalation of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board into level four of the Welsh Government’s five point scale.
The Health Secretary, Jeremy Miles, announced the board will move into level four, warning the board’s financial position had ‘deteriorated rapidly’, forecasting an £18.3m deficit by the end of March, further announcing he will revoke approval of the health board’s three-year plan.
Mr Miles confirmed the health board had been at level three due to concerns about emergency care at The Grange Hospital, telling the Senedd ‘the health board has failed to deliver the required improvements…’
Monmouth MS, Peter Fox has been vocal in raising concerns about performance within the Health Board since being elected, highlighting persistent concerns about two year waits, and A&E performance.
Mr Fox has stated the problem is not with the doctors, nurses and other health professionals who are working tirelessly to support patients, but they, and patients, are being let down by systemic failure.
Following this latest deterioration of performance for the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Mr Fox has called for further intervention by the Welsh Labour Government to sort out the health care crisis facing the entirety of Wales, with every single health board in Wales in some form of escalated status.
Local MS for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has said:
“This latest news is just confirmation the Grange is not working as it should, and people are not getting the treatment they deserve.
“Whilst I welcome the Welsh Government intervening, it is a question of ‘too little, too late’, considering that I and others in the area have been raising concerns about the hospital and its performance since it opened.
“If every single health board is in some kind of escalated status, this points to systemic failure in Wales, and the buck stops with the Welsh Labour Government. They must get a grip of the health crisis facing Wales, before things get any worse.”
