Local MS, Peter Fox, has written to Monmouthshire County Council to express his concern about the proposals to move Monmouth Library from its current space in the Rolls Hall, into the Museum at Shire Hall.
In his letter to the local authority’s Cabinet Member for Resources, Peter has highlighted the concerns that have been brought to his attention by several of his constituents, with some residents reportedly “up in arms” about the proposed move.
Residents have pointed out the potential impact the move could have on the services offered, which are essential for many in and around the town. One of the main concerns that has been raised with Peter, is the apparent lack of a sufficient consultation, with a ‘paper only’ survey being offered, lasting for just two weeks.
Peter has asked the Chief Officer for a meeting with himself and other elected representatives to better understand the situation in Monmouth, and to seek clarification on the proposals, and to stress the need for a proper consultation.
Peter Fox, Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, has said:
“I have been contacted by a large number of constituents about the proposals to move the library, and I have to say that I am equally concerned.”
“The library offers many services that our residents rely upon, and any potential threat to those should be avoided. If something is not broken, why try to fix it.”
“I have written to the Cabinet Member responsible to express my own concerns, and to also relay the views of my residents, on both the proposals and apparent short consultation.”
“I will always make sure that I stand up for my residents, and to ensure they continue to have the services they deserve.”
