Monmouth MS Urges Action Against Anti-Business Legislation

Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has called on the First Minister of Wales to challenge damaging legislation from the UK Government.

During questions to the First Minister on Tuesday, Mr Fox challenged the UK Labour Government’s Employments Rights Bill, which is currently being “rushed” through Parliament.

The bill, which will see a wave of changes made to employment rights and similar legislation in the UK has been promoted by Labour as “pro-growth”, but viewed by many others as another nail in the coffin for businesses, and by others as simply “bonkers”.

Mr Fox labelled the bill as a political project, pointing to the fact that it generates no revenue, creates no jobs and adds no productivity to the UK.

In his question to the First Minister, the Monmouth MS reminded the Welsh Government of their weekly commitment during questions to drive growth and strengthen Wales’ economy, and therefore asked Eluned Morgan what action she had taken to challenge this further damaging legislation from Westminster.

Local MS for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has said:

“Once again we seem to be at the point where Labour in Westminster are pushing through legislation to the detriment of Wales’ people and business, yet the Welsh Government are happy to sit by and watch it happen.

“The Employment Rights Bill is nothing more than a political project, that does nothing to achieve Labour’s aims of growth, in fact its quite clear it will do the opposite.

“The Conservatives are committed to repealing every anti-business and anti-growth measure within the bill, should it become law, restoring common sense, and sending a very clear message that Britain is open for business.

“Only the Welsh Conservatives have a plan to Fix Wales, grow our economy, and ensure that businesses are able to thrive.”
