In today’s Budget, the Chancellor outlined £26 billion work of tax increases, despite pledging that she would not, “come back for more taxes.”
Part of the Chancellor’s tax increases include a tax on pension contributions, as well as slashing the Cash ISA Limit.
This budget comes at a time where unemployment in Wales has hit 5.7%, the highest unemployment rate in the UK.
In response to the Chancellor’s statement, the Senedd voted in favour of the Welsh Conservative’s debate condemning the budget as “failing the people of Wales.”
Responding to Labour's budget, Monmouth MS Peter Fox has said:
“It is clear that Labour had no plan when they came into government, and it is the hardworking families across the United Kingdom that are now having to pay the price.
“This budget is nothing but an attempt to buy more time for a Prime Minister and Chancellor who are under pressure from their own party, but this shows their time is running out.
“What we need is a government willing to implement welfare reform, cut taxes and get our economy moving, and only the Conservatives can provide that."
