Lead Conservative candidate for Sir Fynwy Torfaen, Peter Fox, has criticised Welsh Labour following reports that newly qualified paramedics are being encouraged to seek employment abroad.
The Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed that due to “financial and operational issues,” newly qualified paramedics will not be offered roles this year. The Welsh Government said it is “working closely” with the service and partner organisations to address the situation.
Mr Fox has condemned Labour’s response, arguing that after 27 years in power, they should have already resolved the systemic issues facing the Ambulance Service in Wales.
Highlighting what he described as a pattern of poor decision-making, the Conservative candidate for Monmouthshire and Torfaen pointed to Labour’s poor decision making, often supported by Plaid Cymru, as a key factor in this latest issue.
Peter Fox said:
“Once again, we are seeing the consequences of years of short-sighted and misguided decisions by Welsh Labour.
“After nearly three decades in power, they are still claiming to be ‘working closely’ with our Ambulance Service. The reality is they have failed to fix the very problems they helped create.
“At a time when our NHS is under immense strain, it is simply unacceptable that newly trained paramedics are being told to look for work abroad. It is a damning indictment of Labour’s record.
“This is the price of misplaced priorities: more politicians, costly Senedd projects, and ongoing subsidies for Cardiff Airport, while frontline services are left to struggle.
“Labour, propped up by Plaid Cymru, has taken Wales down the wrong path, and our health service is paying the price.
“Labour may be losing support, and a vote for Reform might feel like a protest, but it risks delivering more power to Plaid Cymru, and that comes with real consequences for Wales.
“In May, voters in Monmouthshire and Torfaen have a clear choice: continue with the same failed approach, or electing a strong Conservative voice that will stand up for our health service and those who rely on it.”
